Exploring the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department

Contees Wharf Garage Fire 2/2/2024

A small house engulfed in flames at night, with thick smoke rising into the dark sky. The fire is concentrated on the roof and side of the structure. The surrounding area is grassy and dimly lit.

On February 2nd at 2109hrs, Engine 2-2, Rescue Squad 2 and surrounding stations were alerted to the 2-07box in the 3800 block of Contees Wharf Ln. for the reported detached garage fire. Upon response the call was upgraded due to the proximity of the dwelling and possible involvement of the dwelling. Batallion Chief 3 arrived and reported a fully involved garage approximately 20ft from the residence home. E022 along with E011 made the initial attack, RS02 originally assigned the RIT company was changed to first due special service and made entry into home to investigate for extension on division 1 and the attic while Tw40 checked the basement division. Damage was done to the siding and soffits of the main dwelling however the fire did not extend into the home. Water supply was established at South River High School for a tanker shuttle. The fire was reported under control shortly after. Units remained on location for an extended period  of time for salvage and overhaul.
