Exploring the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department

Fireboat 2 gets an upgrade with the addition of the FLIR M364 Marine Camera

A small red and silver patrol boat is docked at a marina during sunset, with another larger boat on a lift nearby and calm water reflecting the sky.

We are pleased to announce an important upgrade to our fireboat: the installation of a FLIR M364 marine camera. This advanced thermal imaging technology is designed to enhance our capabilities during emergency response operations.

The FLIR M364 camera offers high-resolution thermal imagery, allowing our crew to detect heat sources and identify potential fire hazards more effectively, even in low visibility conditions. This addition will aid in locating victims and hotspots, while also improving our overall situational awareness while responding to maritime incidents.A thermal imaging display from a Simrad device shows a waterfront scene with docks and buildings, where the water and structures are visible in contrasting shades of black, white, and gray. Control buttons appear on the screen.

By incorporating the FLIR M364 into our fireboat systems, we aim to increase safety and efficiency in our operations, ensuring that we are better equipped to serve our community and surrounding communities in emergency situations.

The Flir M364 camera was partially funded by the FY24 Senator Amos 508 grant. The department covered the difference. The Senator Amos 508 grant is a company match grant up to 50% of the project cost.

We look forward to leveraging this technology to enhance our firefighting efforts and improve the effectiveness of our responses on the water. As always, thanks to Rhode River Marina for handling all needs for the boat.
